Need Some Extra Cash? Look no Further

Need some extra cash? Look no further than your garage or basement! Yes, you heard me right. I don't have some lame product I'm trying to shove down your throat, or some tear jerking success story. I just have facts.

Over the past 16 years my wife Carole and I have been together, I've learnt that most of us accumulate a lot of "stuff". Notice I used the word "stuff" and not "junk". That's key here, because what you might think is junk, actually is worth something to someone. If you're real lucky, some people may be prepared to pay a lot for it. It don't matter what it is. It could be a car, children's toys, books, sports equipment, you name it.

So what's my point? I'm getting there. Before I go further though, let's make one thing abundantly clear. Well known classified ad websites are NOT good places to sell your "stuff". Most of us have a lot of things around the house that you no longer need, but could come in handy for someone. The problem with big classifieds websites is that very few people want to drive an hour to pick up your "stuff". In fact, most of the time you get that typical reply, "Duh, I'll give you $20 for it if you can deliver it to Tim Buck Two", yeah, right!

What I've just recently discovered is Faceboook. Ok, now don't laugh at me. I know it's not really well known, and many of you have probably never used it, so just thought I'd help you out here. (sometimes I'm very sarcastic by the way, lol!) What I'm getting at, in a very round about manner, is that you shouldn't advertise on a website as vast as some of those big classifieds websites for small items. You're really wasting your time. You need to concentrate locally.

I live in Limoges, Ontario. It's a small town of approximately 3,000 people located 20 minutes east of Ottawa. My wife Carole introduced me to 3 or 4 local classifieds groups on Facebook this week. No word of a lie, we're lucky if the stuff we post in these groups lasts a day. I put a drill press on there 5 hours ago and it sold in 5 minutes. It's crazy, Carole sold $150 dollars worth of kids toys and books in the past 18 hours. Perhaps it's the area we live in, but I'm telling you it's been a real eye opener.

So here's what I want you to all do. Dig out all those used clothing, books, toys, and other unused goodies. Then go on Facebook and search for groups in your area where you can post your "stuff" (NOT "junk", lol). I'm sure there must be a group, for example, called Twillingate Classifieds on Facebook. If there is not, then create it! Let's get local classifieds groups running everywhere on Facebook. It's absolutely FREE and there's no hidden agenda. We're just a bunch folks trying to buy and sell the things we want or need, and we don't want to have to drive 3 hours to pick it up.

There's an added bonus by the way. We've noticed you can get more money for your stuff locally as well. Who would have known. Happy shopping!

Twillingate Underrated? Tell Me Something I Didn't Already Know

I was just doing my nightly routine, checking my email and visiting Facebook, when I came across an article posted on Facebook titled (click on the following link to read the article) The 20 Most Underrated Places In Canada, According To Canadians. It's a great article that mentions some great places in Canada to visit. One place in particular caught my eye though, Twillingate, NL.

The article really got me to thinking about what makes a place great. The more I thought about it, the  more I had to agree with Twillingate being on that list. Twillingate is one of the most scenic areas in the province, and boasts of its natural beauty as well as its unique culture and way of life.

Now not to say I'm not a bit bias here, but I love Twillingate. Often on the world stage, it is referred to as iceberg alley. Twillingate has one of the biggest festivals in the province, the Fish, Fun and Folk Festival. Some of the highest winds in the province (second only to the Wreckhouse) have been recorded at Long Point. One of the best Chinese restaurants in Newfoundland is also in Twillingate, the Golden Restaurant. Of course, what outport community in Newfoundland could be complete without a Mary Brown's.

Twillingate is one awesome place. I love visiting, and couldn't be more proud to call it home. If you haven't been there already, mark it on your list of places to visit. You won't regret it.

What's Wrong with Justin Bieber?

Where do we start? Here's a young man who became an overnight sensation when he was barely a teen. The things we all experienced in our teen years, he has totally missed out on. That's not to say "poor Justin". How can something like overnight stardom NOT mess you up?

Justin has now grown into a man. Growing up in his teens, his life was under a microscope by people who could care less about him, his life or his struggles. It's all about what sells, and apparently pissing Justin off and getting footage of him making an ass of himself makes for great news.

Yesterday news broke of Justin having another run in with the law after confronting paparazzi. Is this no surprise? Justin, so desperate to get away from it all, decided to take a break and return home to Stratford, Ontario with his girlfriend Selena Gomez (and I thought they were brought up, guess that shows what I know ) trying to get his life back on track and patch things up with his girlfriend (or "ex"). The paparazzi were having none of that. Knowing full well how Justin would react, yet again they pursued and antagonised him into a confrontation. Of course Justin delivered, as usual.

At this point I don't even know who to be pissed off at anymore. I'm not saying that Justin is not a dick right now, but the paparazzi need to back off. There's a very fine line between sanity and insanity, and if they keep pushing Justin the way they have been, something horrible is going to happen, mark my words. Justin needs a break, and disappear for a while until things cool down. Maybe he has anger issues as they claim, but wouldn't you if someone was always in your face pushing you to get a reaction?

News flash, Justin is human! Oh no, tell me it isn't so! This just can't be! (Yes, I'm being sarcastic) Aren't we all just sick of this? Personally I did some pretty stupid things when I was his age. Isn't he entitled to do the same? I think we're holding these young celebrities to a standard that's unattainable. Isn't part of becoming an adult, making mistakes and learning from them? I think it's time to just leave the guy alone.

Back to School 2014

It's back to school time again already! Some would say "it's the most wonderful time of the year!". I'm not so sure I would go as far as to say that, but it is nice to get back into the fall routine

This morning is a very busy day on our roads and highways. The school buses are out in full force carrying our kids to school. Also, many parents are seeing their kids off for their first day of school, or for their first day back to school. Quite a few kids don't take a bus and are being dropped off by their parents or walk to school. It's an all-around very busy day today.

As everyone heads back to the "grind", so-to-speak, I wish everyone a happy and safe day. Please remember to drive carefully and yield to all those buses. Please be especially careful in those school zones as well as near schools where you will find many kids walking to and from school. Let's make today a great, accident free day!
